Named for the Patron Saint of Photography, aesthetically Veronika at Fotografiska is a gestalt of light, form, and composition conceived by Roman and Williams, they re-envisioned with respect and innovation the historical 1894 Beaux-Arts Church Missions House.  Patrons enter on the second floor through a twilight colored hallway, where the narrative of Veronika welcomes you to a journey of the unexpected.  In the bar area, a mystical bohemian forest landscape mural connects the relationship between painting and photography at the cusp of its conception.  Celebrating the tension between the two with earthy and cyan tones, it is reminiscent of the early work of Mondrian.  The bar juxtaposes the eccentricities of feminine and masculine, transcending eras you can’t quite place.  Honed Black St. Laurent marble on the bar contrasts with the shades of dawn in the surrounding mural that is offset by the native stained glass window that was rescued and used as part of the wall. 

This hybrid continues in residential meets palatial refinement as you move into the dining rooms, where soaring ceilings hold massive brass chandeliers

that emulate crowns with tiny points of light.  Here, the warmth of the lighting design, completely created by Roman and Williams, illuminates the soft palette of natural colors and pale oak floors. Flattened arches with detailed wood trim edging them, invented by Roman and Willaims, render enfilades and geometries that evolved from the early 19th to the mid 20th Century.  Curvaceous and deep mohair seating with an arched back hugs you and references the architecture of the room.  Polished, elegant hued Rosa Perlino marble tabletops are graced with custom egg-shaped lights.  A series of de Chirico inspired, blackened brass arched doorways provides a dichotomy of modernism to the romance of the dining area and serves as the entrance to the kitchen.  Skillfully, the otherworldly experience plays out even in the lavatories with chic 40s Italian style mix of beautiful stones in dark reds, purples, blues, and blacks.
